As IT, Telecom, Media & Entertainment converge, they are forming a space we could call the Digital Ecosystem. For all the benefits that accrue to all of us, this emerging ecosystem will also throw up new challenges. Government will face policy and regulatory challenges and will need to help the digital ecosystem evolve into a healthy environment that creates economic value and adds well being to society. Ability to create a robust regulatory framework for the digital ecosystem will mean a lot. The recent ‘cleaning the internet of child porn’ by blocking the 857 internet websites is a case in point. Simply blocking the websites does nothing because the same sites can repackage themselves and pop up again in another avatar. A lot will hence depend on how much various stakeholders will collaborate among themselves, with users and with government – to build an ecosystem where all stakeholders can thrive. The responsibility lies with all and not just our government.
